CHANDRA WICKRAMASINGHE, MBE, Ph.D., Sc.D., Litt.D.

Bio

Professor Chandra Wickramasinghe studied at Trinity College in Cambridge, earning his Ph.D. in mathematics in 1963, and a doctorate of science ten years later. Wickramasinghe has written over forty books, published over four-hundred technical articles, and is currently an Honorary Professor at the University of Buckingham.


Wickramasinghe was a Fellow of Jesus College, Cambridge, from 1963-1973 and a Founder Member of Staff at Fred Hoyle's newly founded Institute of Theoretical Astronomy at the University of Cambridge.  In 1973 he moved to Cardiff University to be Professor and Head of the Department of Applied  Mathematics and Astronomy until his retirement.


Together with the late Sir Fred Hoyle, he’s best known for popularizing the Panspermia hypothesis.
